Encounter Ministry

Encounter is the college student ministry at McKinney Church in Fort Worth, Texas. We have a website and a Facebook page, so definitely take some time to check those out! Also, check out our new college video here

Our vision is to see Christian college students developed into active, passionate leaders who dramatically impact their campus for Christ. We want to empower and equip these students to reach their friends, coworkers, and classmates with the hope of the Gospel. There are currently 10,000 undergraduates on TCU's campus, and it has been estimated that only about 1,000 of those students are professing Christians. That means that there are 9,000 students who do not know or claim the hope of Jesus Christ in their own lives. We want to reach the 9,000!!

The way this vision plays out on a weekly basis has several components;

Leadership team.
The Encounter leadership team is composed of the students who lead weekly Bible studies on TCU's campus. They are the backbone, the visionaries, and the energy of this ministry. Leadership training takes place each Sunday evening when the student leaders meet in church family's houses to share a meal and get trained on their Bible study for the week. Not only are leaders being trained to lead community groups, but the goal is to train them to be active and effective leaders in all areas of life in such a way that will benefit them long past their four years in college.

Community Groups.
We currently have fourteen community groups meeting throughout the week at TCU. These groups are designed to be self-reproducing; at the end of each semester community group leaders identify members who are faithful, available, and teachable. These members are invited to join our leadership team, and eventually will launch out to start their own community groups in their own circle of influence. Our vision and prayer is to see student-led community groups in every "people group" of TCU, so that every student has a familiar and welcoming place to go and hear the hope of the Gospel.

Encounter.
Every Tuesday night at 7pm, we have the Encounter service at McKinney. There's a shuttle that picks students up from campus so that transportation does not present a problem. The night starts with worship, and then our college pastor preaches on a passage of scripture. At the end of the service, we always have free pizza at the back in the effort to create an environment in which students will hang out and talk. While the Bible studies serve as the backbone of our ministry in that they are the place where students will be poured into deeply and
personally, the Encounter service creates a time for students to enjoy time with their friends and invite new people to.
